In June 2022, we partnered with Sky Arts for their Access All Arts week, offering schools both new resources and workshops.
Sky Arts are passionate about ensuring that 'everyone can benefit from the transformative power of film' and we first supported that mission by helping develop their Images resources for teachers to use throughout the week.
Their in-school programme was held in Leeds this year so we also developed an archive and filmmaking workshop for primary school students across the region.
I'm hugely impressed how much you got into the workshop. Pupils have been able to explore the world around them, discover and explore what archive film is and also have a lot of fun making films.

The adaptable workshop is suitable for all different abilities and environments within a primary setting, featuring archive film from the Leeds area from over 125 years ago.
The students were asked to discuss their views about modern day Leeds and the world around them. We then tasked them with creating a short film around one key subject that would be placed in a time capsule and opened in 100 years by young people of the same age. We worked with five primary schools across Leeds, delivering 10 workshops to over 340 students during the week and culminating in a visit from local MP Hilary Benn to Low Road Primary school.
I loved looking at all the old archive footage from 1895 the best and comparing it to modern day Leeds. it was fascinating!
