The prestigious BFI London Film Festival returned to the capital this week for its 58th year, with a host of filmmaking talent descending on the city for a two week celebration of film.

Running this year from 8-19 October, our young reporters will be in attendance throughout the festival, interviewing a number of filmmakers and sampling some of the very best films on offer.

Here's a short roundup from the festival's opening day.

The Imitation Game

Opening the festival this year was the World War Two drama The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. A dramatic portrayal of the life of famous enigma code-breaker Alan Turing, the film is already being considered as one of the best British films of the year.

Young reporter Lily was present at the gala screening, interviewing a number of the film's stars including Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley and Mark Strong. Watch the video below as Benedict and others talk about the new film, and how film can impart a number of valuable lessons to young people.

Mr. Turner

A biopic of influential British Romantic painter J.M.W Turner, new film Mr. Turner marks the return of one of Britain's most significant directors - Mike Leigh.

This week, young reporter Harry got to meet Mike, along with actors Marion Bailey and Dorothy Atkinson, to talk about their experiences of the film. Known for his heavily improvised and realistic filmmaking style, Mike offered a wealth of advice for potential directors, including how best to incorporate humour while storytelling. Watch this superb interview in the video below.
