Synopsis

This informative documentary charts an overview of World War II from the rise of fascism in Nazi Germany through to the armistice in 1945. After Hitler comes to power and begins an assault on other European countries, World War II commences in 1939; it would last for six years and the fatalities would total approximately 3% of the world’s population. The documentary references key events and significant moments throughout the war such as the Dunkirk evacuation, the Enigma code, D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, the Siege of Leningrad, the Battle of Stalingrad, and the attack on Pearl Harbor. Created on the 75th anniversary of the ceasefire, this documentary features contributions from those directly involved on all sides who provide a valuable and unique insight into the biggest conflict in human history.

Content warning: This documentary contains brief images of real dead bodies which some viewers may find distressing.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
