XR (Extended Reality) the future of cinema? Careers talk with Elaine Wong.
Elaine Wong is an independent curator and consultant across film, and interactive and immersive technologies.
She is currently a Programme Advisor for BFI London Film Festival's Shorts Programme selection, and has previously previewed for Sheffield Doc/Fest and Underwire Film Festival. She co-founded VR Distribution company Other Set in 2017, and was part of the project launch team for the National Centre for Immersive Storytelling: StoryFutures Academy, part of the UK Government's Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, pioneering immersive experiences across the creative industries.
From 2016 to 2018, she produced the Sheffield Doc/Fest Alternate Realities Market, a co-financing and co-production market for VR and immersive non-fiction projects. In 2018 she was on the selection committee of the prestigious Grierson Awards for documentary, and will sit on the 2019 Jury of Aesthetica Film Festival. She has a degree in Fine Art, and works at the intersection of art, film and technology.
