Synopsis

This documentary takes an in-depth look at the life of soul singer Whitney Houston, one of the most successful performers in musical history. With access to home-movie footage from throughout her life, the film takes in her time at school – where she was badly bullied – her meteoric rise to global superstardom, the malicious treatment of the tabloid press, and the tragic decline that brought about her early death at the age of just 48. Remarkable footage of Whitney performing is edited together with images of wider social and political issues of the 1980s and 1990s, providing important context in a simple, effective way. Containing distressing revelations about her childhood, the film is a powerful portrait of a unique, but deeply troubled artist, that never forgets to celebrate her extraordinary talent, but with pertinent messages around our attitudes to fame, mental health and addiction today.

Strong language, drug references, references to child sex abuse.
