Thumb Wars

A heart-warming story about friendship and integration. When an Arabic-speaking student named Hassan starts at school, he immediately makes friends with his new classmates - which leaves Jacob feeling left out. After noticing this, Hassan works to improve his English to find a way to build bridges with Jacob.

This film was curated for Into Film's Paul Hamlyn Foundation Project, Full STEAM Ahead, which, as part of its offer, provided bespoke filmmaking support and guidance for primary teachers and young people to make their own short films. These films represent four different styles of filmmaking; Curricular Film, Film Essay, Narrative Film and Shoot and Screen.

What our teachers say

"The film texts motivate and engage all types of learners. As a result, the ‘give it a go’ approach has never been more evident in my class as they feel more confident expressing their ideas and opinions in a creative manner. This powerful tool has enabled every child in my P6 class to achieve success in literacy."
