Based on a true story, Drama
This 1980s drama is based on a true story of a teenager (Eric Stoltz) afflicted by an odd condition that gives his face a lion-like quality. The film has the same affirmative message that many films on the subject of disability/deformity have, that we are all the same beneath the skin and equally worthy of love and acceptance, and while this may have some sentimental moments, it is warm-hearted and very likeable.
Beautiful account of John Merrick, a man with a severe physical deformity rescued from a cruel circus sideshow in Victorian London.
