He was a prolific, consistently challenging filmmaker, turning out a couple of thrilling films a year, like this painfully hip, stylish, and in its own way romantic drama, one that set out to be, with its 15 facts concerning the youth of the mid-1960s, a kind of manifesto for a new form politics.
