This is a nicely observed study of a friendship spanning two decades from the mid 1970s to the mid-1990s. As teenagers in suburban London, Holly and Marina swore to be friends forever. But this pact is sorely tested over the years as the pair remain intensely close while not always being very friendly to one another. The film has a good ear for dialogue and a nice unobtrusive sense of the changing times, and the story is pleasingly unsentimental.
Hugely popular, touchingly sad drama about the life-long friendship between two very different women, a singing star and a top lawyer.
