Days away from gender reassignment surgery, Bree discovers she has a son, Toby, when he calls out of the blue requesting prison bail. Unwilling to disclose her transgender status, Bree goes to Toby’s rescue in the guise of a Christian missionary. Against the ticking clock of her final surgery date, Bree embarks on a road trip across America with Toby intending to return him to his stepfather.
