Comedy, Coming of Age
Actress Diane Keaton made her feature-directing debut with this life-affirming comedy drama about a young boy whose would-be inventor father is unable to cope after his mother gets sick. The boy, Steven Lidz, goes to live with his two eccentric uncles (who rename him Franz, so he sounds like the composer Franz Liszt) where, despite their idiosyncrasies, he finds the stability he craves. Sad and funny by turns, this is a glowing portrait of family bonds.
Biopic of Beatles music legend John Lennon, focusing on his early life as a teen in 1950s Liverpool and the complex relationship with his mother.
