This Irish family drama gives an interesting twist to the well-worn Dickensian premise of orphans pursued by a villainous uncle who wants to get his hands on their inheritance. The uncle in question is the aptly named Hawk Dove, a former actor who uses his skills to trick and trap the two Dove children at every turn of their epic journey to County Galway and safety. Moody has a ball as the sinister master of disguise and there are plenty of thrilling moments.
Imaginative, funny film about three children who are sent to stay with their creepy, murderous uncle in a rickety mansion after their parents die.
