This is a tough, challenging drama co-directed by leading Brazilian director Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas. the film is set in the mean streets of a Sao Paulo favela: a place of extreme poverty and violence but where everyone loves football. The title means 'off-side', something of a metaphor for the family at the film's centre who are neglected by mainstream society. The action is focused on a single mum and her four boys who include a brilliant footballer, a sexually repressed Christian and a bike courier seduced by crime.
