Synopsis

Sita Sings The Blues is a colourful culture clash that not only melds several different animation styles, but also mixes the story of Rama and Sita (the basis for the Hindu festival, Diwali) with the songs by 20s jazz chanteuse, Annette Hanshaw and episodes from creator Nina Paley's own love life. Paley's take on the Ramayana, may be daringly irreverent on occasion, but it is also utterly unique and completely charming.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
