Synopsis

What if you discovered that someone you thought you knew had a secret life? And how would you readjust your memories in the face of this newfound knowledge? This is the challenge that faces grieving twins Jeanne and Simon when their late mother's lawyer hands them letters addressed to the father they presumed dead and the brother they never knew existed. So begins a quest for answers that will take Jeanne far from her home in Quebec to the other side of the world. Brutal and haunting, Incendies is a meditation on forbidden love, religious tolerance and culpability that raises important questions about the objectivity of memory and the nature of truth itself.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
