Synopsis

The simple life of a young Turkish boy is captured in this poetic drama. A sensitive lad, Yusuf loves the forests around his isolated mountain home, viewing them as a place of mystery and adventure. It's here that he has his happiest moments, helping his beekeeper father Yakup, who he totally adores. So after falling honey yields force Dad to travel further away to hang his hives, a left-behind Yusuf is full of sorrow and worry. They're feelings that prove justified when Yakup doesn’t return, prompting his little son to courageously attempt to find him. With minimal dialogue, languid pacing and only natural sounds for a score, this is a beautiful, arty celebration of the purity of nature and childhood.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
