Resentments and secrets cause relationships to implode in this likeable, British coming-of-age tale. Rough-edged but with fun performances and lots of wit, it sees free-spirited, 17-year-old Emelia desperate to follow in the literary footsteps of her famous relative, Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So when she begins working at a seaside hotel owned by former hotshot author Jonathan Fischer, she quickly asks him to help with her writing career. Unsurprisingly, Jonathan’s subsequent mentorship is motivated largely by lust, and soon the pair are having an affair behind his perpetually aggrieved wife's back. Meanwhile, the Fischers' swotty teen daughter has become close friends with Emelia, setting the scene for emotional fireworks as messy truths finally start to surface.
The story follows the hate-filled Pinkie Brown, a teenage mobster who has just taken over running a London gang.
