Comedy, Coming of Age
The Wood refers to Inglewood, California - the suburb in which Mike, Slim and Roland grew up as best friends, spending their time trying to get girls and often ending up in difficult situations. For instance, when Mike is persuaded to pinch the bottom of Alicia, the girl he has a crush on, he gets beaten up by her older brother. Now, years later, it’s Roland’s wedding day and he's gone missing. As Mike and Slim try to make sure the ceremony goes ahead smoothly, the three reminisce about their youth. A warm, though sometimes subversive, comedy.
Basketball provides the backdrop to this smart, touching story of a long-running romance between two fiercely ambitious sportspeople.
