Synopsis

A thief with miraculous healing powers becomes both a blessing and a curse to the inhabitants of a snowbound Turkish border town in this strange yet intriguing magical-realist fable. Artistically shot and deliberately slow-paced, it sees the titular hero Kosmos warmly welcomed by grateful locals when he appears out of nowhere and rescues a drowning child. Unfortunately, the crazy-talking visitor quickly betrays their hospitality, causing anger by stealing, womanising, and engaging in increasingly odd behaviour. Tired of his ways, the townsfolk want Kosmos gone, until they discover his incredible curing abilities. Suddenly, he’s Mr Popular again, with people prepared to overlook their distaste – providing, of course, his otherworldly talents keep working.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
