Imagine being married off at 14 to someone decades older that you haven't even met. That's the premise of this gripping and taboo-tackling Turkish drama that explores culture, tradition and obligation in an intimate and eloquent way. Unfolding in a remote village, almost entirely in one room, the beautifully shot and performed film sees the child bride and her ageing groom beginning their wedding night, after being brought together to end an ancient blood feud between their two families. With customs and rituals to be observed, the virgin teen is terrified, and consequently does all she can to avoid sleeping with her new husband by sunrise. But her diversions start to have an unexpected effect, leading the claustrophobic events to explode.
The simple life of a young Turkish boy is captured in this poetic drama.
