Synopsis

Over a long, hot summer Paul and his friends become absorbed in a complex war game in the woods. Led by fierce tactician P.K and hot-headed Skinner, the teams focus on capturing each other’s flag whilst adhering to the strict rules of the game. Although their weapons are sticks and paint balloons the game feels tense and brutal from the opening scenes and children’s commitment to the fantasy means that their anger soon turns into real violence. The blend of coming-of-age themes and war film conventions raises interesting questions about the futility of combat and the brutality people inflict on one another.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
