Synopsis

An emotional adaptation of a novel with an incredible back-story itself, Suite Française portrays the struggles of a French village suddenly occupied by the German army during World War Two. The film is seen through the eyes of Lucille, a wife awaiting news of her husband being held as a Prisoner of War while living under the roof of her oppressive mother-in-law Madame Angellier. Allocated a German officer called Bruno to home, both Lucille and Madame Angellier must come to terms with living with a man who stands for everything they hate. Despite trying to ignore him, over time Lucille and Bruno are inevitably drawn together and forced to confront their emotions in the face of a war of which they stand on either side.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
