Synopsis

Builder by day, hardworking Mike also puts in the hours at the Xquisite club as the star attraction of The Kings of Tampa, a male stripping group. Though talented, Mike’s main reason for moonlighting as a dancer is to raise enough money to finance his dream of owning a bespoke furniture business. When naïve young builder Adam expresses an interest in earning a bit on the side, Mike takes him under his wing and Adam proves a hit. But it’s not long before the partying lifestyle draws Adam in the wrong direction, and his behaviour threatens to compromise Mike’s ambitions – and his fledgling romance with Adam’s sister, Brooke. Magic Mike exuberantly sends up preconceived notions of masculinity and performative gender roles, as well as investigating moral dilemmas within the exotic dance industry.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
