Synopsis

Jack is a bored 15 year-old delinquent stuck in his dead-end, suburban town during a long, hazy summer. What with absent parents, dealing with another round of summer school, as well as an ongoing feud with a local bully, the last thing he wants to do is look after his younger cousin who has come to stay. But over the course of a weekend, Jack gradually comes to discover the importance of friendship, family and happiness even in the bleakest circumstances. A frank and engrossing coming-of-age tale, the film explores the fragility and naivety that frequently lies behind the bravado of adolescence, but does not shy away from the often violent realities of peer-to-peer bullying.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
