During the late 1970s through to the early 1980s, jazz musician Miles Davis went through a silent period in which ill health and drug abuse pushed creativity into the background. Miles’s self-imposed exile is interrupted when fictional Rolling Stone journalist Dave Brill forces his way into Miles’s life to satisfy public curiosity about what has been going on. When Dave exposes that Miles may have been working on a long-awaited new recording, he unwittingly sets into motion a dangerous chain of events. Interweaved into the unfolding action are poignant flashbacks into Miles’s early success, tinged by his bittersweet and tempestuous relationship with dancer Frances Taylor.
