Alan, a struggling, recently divorced American businessman heads to Saudi Arabia for what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime. He plans to sell an innovative IT system to the king, for use in one of the vast urban sprawls being developed in the heart of the desert. However, the king is nowhere to be seen and Alan finds himself struggling to adapt to local bureaucracy. With the help of a wisecracking taxi driver and elegant Saudi doctor, Alan gradually finds his feet and begins to rebuild his life. This inventive film has lots to say about globalization, technology and the changing face of geopolitics. It also explores life in a land which remains relatively mysterious to many, despite its increasing influence.
