Synopsis

This is the first movie in a trilogy from Daniel Auteuil, a remake of a classic film trilogy from the 1930s, which is itself adapted from a series of French plays by Marcel Pagnol. The film takes place at a bar in Marseille’s Old Port, owned by César and his son Marius, whose dream is to one day sail away on a passing boat and embark on a life full of adventure and exploration. However, both he and a girl named Fanny have long held feelings for one another, and when they finally acknowledge their shared affections, things take a complicated turn. Suddenly offered the opportunity of a lifetime, Marius must decide between a dream wedding and a dream job, knowing that he can’t have both.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
