Romance, Science Fiction and Fantasy
In a future Orwellian society, human emotions have been eradicated, leading to an end to war and suffering, and a period of harmony. However, when a mysterious new disease dubbed “Switched On Syndrome” appears to infect illustrator Silas, he finds himself an outcast. Discovering that his developing feelings for colleague Nia are reciprocated, the pair seek to keep their romance a secret, as authorities battle to find a “cure” for their condition. Taking a nod from Shakespeare, this tale of star-crossed lovers is an original, thoughtful piece of science-fiction helped by a fizzing chemistry between its two leads, and probing what it is to be human in a society controlled by machines.
Thought-provoking film on the nature of being human.
