Layla, a lawyer from a strict Muslim family, and Salma, a lesbian DJ from a conservative Christian family, share a flat in Tel Aviv and enjoy an independent, un-traditional life together of drinking and partying. Obliged to take in Nour, a religious Muslim woman who has come to study in the city, the three women are forced to confront their prejudice towards one another’s backgrounds and beliefs. Each struggling to maintain their independence and individuality within a traditional Arab world, Layla, Salma and Nour forge an unlikely friendship in this insightful, taboo-breaking portrait of what it means to be a Palestinian woman in Israel today.
Adapted from Marjane Satrapi's brilliantly funny autobiographical graphic novel about a rebellious young girl's experience of revolutionary Iran.
