Synopsis

This documentary follows Salim Shaheen, Afghanistan’s most popular and prolific actor, producer and director, having made 110 films over 30 years. But unlike Hollywood or Bollywood productions, his films aren’t known across the world. Instead, they play to adoring audiences in community venues across Afghanistan, despite the country’s oppressive Taliban-led regime. Radio journalist Sonia Kronlund had covered warfare in Afghanistan for 20 years when she heard of the self-proclaimed ‘Prince of Nothingwood’ and decided to tell his positive, rousing story of filmmaking against all odds.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
