Paul and Audrey Safranek are a happily married couple in Omaha, Nebraska who are experiencing financial issues. At a high-school reunion, they encounter their former friends Dave and Carol Johnson who have undergone a newly-invented process known as “downsizing” in which the recipient is shrunk to a size of five inches. After discussing the many perceived benefits – from its eco-friendliness to the economic advantages – Paul and Audrey are convinced to go ahead with the procedure and join a community set up for downsized people known as Leisureland. However, the process proves more complicated than anticipated. From acclaimed indie director Alexander Payne, this is a quirky, darkly comic satire which explores issues around immigration, prejudice and the environment.
