Synopsis

Taking place over ten days and across 1,000km, the Mongol Derby has become the world’s longest horse race, attracting competitors from all around the globe to the Mongolian Steppe. This documentary follows participants from the US, Britain, Ireland and South Africa as they attempt to conquer the endurance test and finish in first place, or simply finish at all. Having to navigate difficult terrain – from wide rivers to wild dogs – as well as physical exhaustion, injuries and adjusting to being allocated a new horse to ride at each checkpoint, each rider is tested to their limit as they learn much about themselves and each other along the way. ‘All the Wild Horses’ is an insightful film about Mongolia’s rich history – from Genghis Khan through to the modern day – showcasing the community, culture and its close relationship with animals of the land.
