Set in 1847 during the Great Famine in Ireland, when the crisis has reached its worst year. Martin Feeney is a soldier-turned-deserter of the British Army who returns to his homeland but is stunned when he sees the death and suffering the famine has caused, especially to his immediate family. After witnessing such terrible scenes, he’s arrested by members of the Royal Irish Constabulary – the police force in operation at the time – for squatting in one of the few houses still standing in a violent eviction. After escaping his captors, Feeney sets out for revenge on those he sees as responsible, while British officers seek to apprehend him for his crimes.
