Synopsis

Clara is a young girl searching for a special key to unlock a gift left by her mother before she passed away. On Christmas Eve, Clara receives a nutcracker toy from her godfather, and to her surprise it comes alive at the stroke of midnight and transports her to a magical world. There she meets Phillip, a young soldier, who leads her on a tour of the mysterious land, meeting a gang of mice and the Sugar Plum Fair. As they travel through different sweet-inspired realms, they prepare to retrieve the key from the fourth realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger. This fantasy live-action adaptation of the popular ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’, is an accessible introduction to the short story as well as to the fantasy literary genre.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
