Set in the seaside French town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, this French, coming-of-age documentary also blends elements of fiction, most notably the musical and the comedy, as it tells the story of five students on the cusp of graduating from their high school. Director David André films these students experiencing the highs and lows of being 17, preparing to take their final exams and mapping out their careers, whilst also allowing them to write, stage and perform their own song-and-dance numbers to express themselves. With a fascinating and diverse cast of young people, from a working-class punk to a rebellious art-student, this is a film which showcases growing up and learning responsibility through a truly unique and experimental clashing of styles and genres.
