Synopsis

With far-right forces having been on the rise for years, Berlin in the early 1930s has become an unsafe place for many minorities. Anna is only nine years old when her father, a well-known Jewish journalist, is targeted by the Nazi regime and her family make the decision to escape the city and become refugees. Along with her 12-year-old brother and her mother, Anna is forced to leave behind everything she knows, including her precious pink rabbit, and traverse Europe looking for a safe place to settle down. With their journey taking them from Switzerland to Paris and subsequently to London, this is a story about resilience and desperation in the face of oppression seen through the eyes of innocence. Useful as a snapshot of history, this German film also contains the ever important and effective human touch through its well-drawn characters.
