The six youth-made short films included in this collection are the winners of the Into Film Awards 2022, where we celebrate the talent, creativity and potential of young filmmakers and artists around the country. This wide variety of films, made from students of different ages, backgrounds and perspectives, are a fantastic insight into what the future holds for British film.
The Year the World Changed (Best Film 11 Years and Under): As the first Lockdown hits in March 2020, this short film follows the lives of two girls. Maisie continues to attend school as a key worker child, while Olivia must learn from home. As lockdown continues, we see how this affects the children and their friendship - with a few hilarious recreations of the news thrown in for good measure! (10 mins, cert. PG)
Food Fight (Best Film 12-15): When a food fight breaks out in the school canteen, it's every child for themselves - and if the snack-based weaponry doesn't get you, the deadly food puns surely will! (3 mins, cert. U)
Driven to Despair (Best Film 16-19): A teenager with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) works hard to stick to situations she can control, but finds herself thrown when she misses her bus stop, and must find a way to cope with the rising panic and stay calm. (5 mins, cert. PG)
The Lonely Polar Bear (Best Animation 11 and under): A charmingly made stop-motion animation, The Lonely Polar Bear sees the titular bear having no option but to head south in search of a new home when the ice at the North Pole begins to melt as a result of climate change.
(2 mins, cert. U)
Mia (Best Animation 11 and over): An affecting and lovingly animated stop-motion film that explores mature themes of loss and grief, following a man named Mark who is still recovering from the tragic passing of his wife, and continues to be haunted by the car crash that took her away. (6 mins, cert. PG)
Change Direction (Changes for a Better World): A quietly impassioned call-to-action in the face of climate change apathy, Greta made this film at 17 years old through the use of an eyegaze communicator, creating something that carries an important message for us all - not least of all those in positions of power, who have the ability to effect significant change in the fight to protect our planet.
