A young woman fends for herself in the desolate city of New San Francisco in the year 2073, 37 years after a catastrophe known only as ‘the event’. How did the world get to be this way? This is the dystopian warning that frames a stark exploration through the many issues facing us in the present day. Real news footage of the effects of climate change is juxtaposed with unnerving images of police all over the world clamping down on protest, while politicians and tech moguls drive society further into corruption and economic chaos. It may feel like science fiction, but this is happening now. A genre-bending documentary by master archival storyteller Asif Kapadia, this frightening and thought-provoking film is an urgent rallying call for change.
violence, threat, injury detail, distressing scenes, very strong language
