On the 25th May in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, a 46-year-old man named George Floyd was arrested and subsequently murdered by police officers in Minnesota, USA. The murder was caught on camera and uploaded to the internet, sparking a series of nationwide protests that would evolve into the Black Lives Matter movement. This still-prescient documentary utilises present-day interviews with archive footage to show the ripple effect that George Floyd’s murder, and the subsequent trial, had on the entire world, with a distinct focus on the United Kingdom. Primarily told through the eyes of young protesters at the heart of the fightback against racism, this panoramic view of one of the most important movements of the 21st century is a surprising and timely reminder of the power we hold as a collective without shying away from the complications we face as a society.
