Knife crime is escalating across the UK, with four fatal stabbings every week. For Idris Elba, this crisis is personal. Raised in East London, where violence was a constant threat, Idris knows how easily lives can be derailed. Now an actor and campaigner, he confronts knife crime head-on, speaking to victims, offenders, police, youth workers and families to understand its roots and explore solutions. His investigation reveals that the issue extends beyond inner cities and communities of colour — white offenders are the majority, and rural areas are increasingly affected. But there is strong evidence that early intervention and preventative initiatives can lead to lasting, life-saving change. This tough and unflinching documentary explores factors such as mental health, social media and neurodiversity, offering a compassionate and nuanced understanding of the context in which young people find themselves caught up in this crisis – and how they can get past it.
