In 1961, Bob Dylan is an unknown 19-year-old musician, freshly arrived in New York City to pay his respects to his ailing musical idol, Woody Guthrie. He meets Guthrie’s friend Pete Seeger, a political activist and key figure in the American folk revival movement. Dylan’s poetic genius enthralls the folk music community, and he soon gets a manager and releases an album. But being the golden boy of a niche musical genre quicky stifles him, and he starts pushing back against tradition. His restless nature also causes turbulence in his romantic relationships with artist Sylvie Russo and fellow musician Joan Baez. As his fame rises, he struggles to deal with the expectations of others, including people trying to tell him how to define himself. So when Dylan picks up an electric guitar, it causes shockwaves. Accompanied by an evocative soundtrack, this intimate portrait about one of the greatest songwriters of all time celebrates the importance of self-expression.
