Synopsis

As a lawyer, Mahatma Gandhi had fought for the rights of the poor. After spending time in Britain as well as South Africa - where he encouraged the act of peaceful protest - Gandhi returned to India to fight for his fellow countrymen. Gandhi's effective, non-violent actions highlighted issues such as women's rights, "untouchability" and Indian independence from British rule - inspiring other civil rights leaders, including America's Martin Luther King. Actor Ben Kingsley won worldwide praise and a Best Actor Oscar for his moving portrayal of India's national hero.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
