Kurdish / Persian
This film takes place in the fearsome, wintry area of Kurdistan near the border with Iran, where it is so cold that the mules used by travellers are given alcohol mixed into their water to keep them moving. Three siblings are trying to look after themselves after they are separated from their smuggler father. Their plight is made even more complicated and heart-breaking by their brother Madi desperately needing an operation to save his life, one which will cost a huge amount of money - money that his elder brother Ayoub is determined to find. This film has a huge amount of heart - but doesn't shy away from the harshness of the world lived in by its characters.
Based on a harrowing true story, this film sees a Japanese mother smuggle her unregistered children into an apartment, banning them from going out.
