After what we assume to be many years away, Dennis Clegg - nicknamed "Spider" - is returning home to London. A shambling figure who has clearly had mental health problems, he takes up residence in a shabby boarding house - but as he settles back into the area in which he grew up, he's swamped with memories of the past. Soon, it's unclear what is real and what isn't as Spider's recollections take him and us from the past to the present and back again. This is an intense and hard-edged portrait of a man lost within his own mind, with an incredible performance from Ralph Fiennes in the title role.
