Based on the acclaimed novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood plays Jonathan, an eccentric Jewish American writer who travels to Ukraine to research his family history. He hires two tour guides - a crotchety old grandfather and his hip young grandson, both called Alex - and the trio head off in a beaten-up old car, with a dog called Sammy Davis Junior, Junior in tow. What follows is bizarre, quirky and touching - as the truth about the past is slowly revealed.
