Watching this brilliantly constructed crime thriller is like playing the famous street corner game in which you try and guess which shell the pea is under. It's deliberately misleading - but in a highly entertaining way. Gene Hackman gives a masterly performance as a thief who has been blackmailed into one last job - and has to stay one step ahead of a deceitful game in order to pull it off. The script features some classic hard-nosed (and occasionally hilarious) dialogue, while a supporting cast including a brilliantly weasly Danny DeVito are excellent.
Bob the Gambler is an old gangster trying to go straight, before he can he must pull off one last job - to rob a casino.
