Period and Historical
You shouldn't expect a big chunk of Chaucer here; although there are quotes from the 14th century English writer's work, this isn't an adaptation of one of his stories. It is, however, about an oddly assorted group of individuals travelling like pilgrims through the Kent countryside - only the backdrop is World War Two, and British parents are worried about their daughters getting swept off their feet by American troops. It's an unusual film, one that makes rural England look and seem both stranger and more beautiful than you could ever imagine.
A gorgeous Technicolor fantasy - in a WWII setting - that puts the emphasis on celebrating life over fearing death.
