This classic British war film begins early in World War Two, when German submarines were destroying large numbers of British ships in the Atlantic. Escorts were used to protect other vessels and to locate submarines. Here, the Compass Rose sets sail with a largely young and inexperienced crew, led by Captain Ericson. Ericson, who is haunted by a tragic incident in his past, tries to build a solid team from the motley group of men. Those onboard must contend with harsh weather conditions and personality clashes, as well as the horrors of war - and Ericson will again be forced to make life and death decisions.
Bleak anti-war classic that has lost none of its power to shock.
