Romance blossoms for two teenagers in this touching coming-of-age tale set in Australia during the 1960s. Danny is sent to an all-male boarding school and soon becomes the butt of jokes because of his awkward manner. He even finds it difficult to return the attentions of Thandiwe, an African girl from the neighbouring school. Over the course of the year Danny and Thandiwe do become close, but the attitudes of the time mean that their interracial relationship meets with disapproval.
