Nominated for five Oscars, this stylish film noir concerns a wealthy journalist who becomes jealously obsessed with a beautiful young woman. Then, when that woman - the Laura of the title - is found murdered, the detective sent to investigate finds himself similarly entranced. Soon, he's spending almost all his time at her apartment on the pretext of trying to crack the case - but it's after he falls asleep there that the mystery really steps up a gear. This is deliciously dark and subversive fare, packed with wonderful performances.
